The Fire Within vs. Burnout

October 16, 20251 min read

October nights glow with fire—candles on windowsills, bonfires in backyards, the quiet flicker of hearths. Fire is life-giving. It warms, illuminates, sustains. But it can also burn out of control.

Entrepreneurship often blurs the line between passion and exhaustion. We love what we do—so we say yes to everything. We stay up late, push through weekends, pour ourselves out until we’re running on fumes.

That’s not fire. That’s burnout.

Burning with purpose looks different. It means fueling your flame with projects that excite you, not ones that drain you. It means creating boundaries so you can sustain your energy long term. It means tending the fire—adding wood carefully, not recklessly.

I’ve seen what happens when entrepreneurs ignore this. Their fire collapses into ashes, leaving them disillusioned. And I’ve seen what happens when they tend it well—they radiate warmth, attract aligned opportunities, and inspire everyone around them.

Reflection Prompt: Where in your business are you tending your fire—and where are you letting it rage unchecked?

Action Step: Choose one boundary to honor this week. Maybe it’s no work after 7 p.m., or saying no to a project that doesn’t light you up. Protect your fire.
